 NEWS & VIEWS   ISSUE 17   6/4/10

School Announcements:

June 14th is a full day of school and the 15th is our last day of school with dismissal at 12:30.

Celebrate the Arts!
Grades K-3 will celebrate the arts at TES on Monday, June 7, beginning at 5:30 p.m. with an Art Show Opening, followed by a concert.
Grades 4-6 will have their Arts evening on Wednesday, June 9, also beginning at 5:30. In addition to singing, the string and band students will perform at the Wednesday show.

Field day will be held on Monday, June 7th. This is a fun school-wide event that the students always really enjoy. Students will be provided with a pizza lunch and ice cream, so there is no need to send a lunch that day. Also, please make sure that your child comes to school in clothes that they can move comfortably in and shoes appropriate for running.~

Fifth Grade Parents:
Thetford Academy will host a discussion of the transition to TA for parents of 5th-graders:
Tuesday, June 8, 7:00-8:00 pm in the TA Library
(upstairs in the White Building with the bell tower)
Please look for an invitation from Thetford Academy in the mail.

**Our email address is changing! The new address is thetfordeschool.org (the change is putting an e between Thetford and school). You can start using this email address now and the change over will be necessary by the end of June.

From the Health Office:
Have a Safe and Happy Summer!

PTO Updates:

A huge "Thank You" to all the volunteers who have come together to help with end of school events!
The PTO Contra Dance in May was lightly attended, but those that stopped by for a chili dinner and contra dancing had lots of fun! Another big "thank you" to Ruth Sylvester, Rick Barrows, and the band "Cuckoo's Nest" for donating their time.
Two fun events coming up are the Ice Cream Social (teamed with TES Field Day) on Monday, June 7th and the Staff Appreciation Luncheon, scheduled for the last day of  school.
The PTO held its last meeting of the school year in May and won't formally meet until August. Keep watch for any beginning of school events!
        Have a wonderful summer!

Host Families Needed
What can you do to promote international understanding?  Host an exchange student! Participate in a
cultural exchange experience by hosting a foreign student.  Bringing a new "son" or "daughter" from a      faraway land into your home is not only a way to learn about another country, but an opportunity to see  our own culture through someone else's eyes.Home stays are now being arranged for teens from around the world for the 2010/2011 school year through PAX, Program of Academic Exchange. PAX students hope to share their customs, holiday traditions, language, and foods with their American hosts.  Host families share their everyday life with their visitor and often build a lasting connection to their student's family abroad. To find out more about this experience, talk to Theo Albrecht, TA's current PAX student from France.  If you     have any questions or would be interested in viewing     student photos and essays from over 20 different     countries, please contact PAX community coordinator, Tracey McFadden at 765-4496
