We got off to a great start! The children all seem happy and ready to tackle second grade work and have some fun.

Most Fridays I will be sending home my “Special Notes,” telling you of our second grade news and any upcoming events. This will be in this format. I find it to be the best way for you to get the needed information in short, concise blurbs, highlighting important dates.

Barb Coulter is our classroom assistant. She worked in this classroom last year as a personal care aide. So she is very familiar with things. It’s great to have her here again.

Children should bring in their own healthy snacks. This is a peanut-free classroom. Around midmorning we all sit down to quietly have our snack break. Milk is available from the lunchroom.

Please send a written note if there is any change in your child’s after school plans.

Let me know if you do not want your phone number and address in the “Class Phonebook.”

Next week I will send home a schedule of our school day. I will note when we have our Specials (P.E., Art, Music, Library, French).

We start each morning with “Morning Meeting.” Each child will have their turn to lead this. We go over the 100 chart, calendar, temperature and a poem. When time allows I will always try to fit in a song or two.

We will soon be out working in the school garden. The second graders have a ‘pollinator garden’ that we will tend to with the help of Cedar Circle’s garden educator, “Cat.” She will visit with us several times this Fall. The first thing will be to harvest the cabbages and carrots for the lunchroom ladies. There will be more garden news to come.

We will be starting with our “Wetlands Unit” next week. On most Thursday afternoons we walk to the Zebedee Wetlands off of Houghton Hill Road. Mud boots will always be the best bet. Your child can leave his/her boots here at school or bring them in each Thursday. Our first trip will be next Thursday (9/9).
