News for 2010 - 2011 Grade 3 Mrs. Lange
August 11, 2010
Dear Student,
I hope you have had a lovely summer! It has gone by so quickly, hasn't it? I’ve been busy working on projects and spending time with my family. I’ve read some good books and done a lot of swimming.
I am looking forward to seeing you in our room on September 1! To find our classroom, go past the school library, turn left and continue almost to the end of the hall. We are in room 223! Don't worry about finding our room the first day of school, I will meet you on the playground and we will line up and walk in together.
Are you wondering what the beginning of third grade will be like? We will spend the first few days getting to know each other, playing some games, doing activities and doing some work to help me get to know you better as a student. I have been busy getting things set up and ready in our classroom. We have 9 boys and 7 girls in our class. Mrs. Bemis will be our classroom assistant. I think you’ll enjoy getting settled into third grade!
In September we will be starting a science unit on Field and Forest Habitats, learning and practicing cursive writing and we'll learn some new math activities. We will read, write, practice our spelling and most importantly, we'll work at becoming a class that can cooperate and work well together. We will also welcome senior citizens from our community who will come to our class to help us with our puppet project! We'll get a lot accomplished together in the coming months, so enjoy your last days of vacation and rest up!
I hope you're not nervous about third grade. You have lots of friends to look for and we'll have a great year. Please pick up four pocket folders sometime during the first couple of weeks of school for third grade. (No notebooks or pencil boxes please, we don't have the storage). Have lots of fun these last few days of summer! I'm looking forward to meeting you soon!
Your new teacher,
Mrs. Lange

Dear Families,
Welcome to third grade! What a great year we all have ahead of us! Third grade is a fun and challenging year for children and I think it's a wonderful age. I hope you will enjoy and encourage the changes and challenges your young learner will face this year.
We will spend the next few days getting acquainted, playing games, learning routines and rules, doing math, reading and spelling assessments and writing and drawing. I will switch the children gradually into a more formal schedule and program over the next two weeks. For these 1st few days, you should be hearing about the Golden Rule, the parachute, personal shields, "The Wind is a Blowin' " and "Schnicker-Shmoo", ... if I get brave! You will also hear about stability balls and I will be sending more information about our use of stability balls as classroom seating at the beginning of next week! Check those home folders and I hope you will encourage your child to tell you a little about each day as we begin our year together.
I need every child to bring four pocket folders to school in the next two weeks. We use these to organize work and papers. Just the folders work best. We don't have storage space for notebooks.
Many children tend to misplace notes, papers or homework. These are important for you to see. It seems to work well to have a 'home folder' that stays in their backpack and is for transporting notes, papers and homework back and forth between home and school. I have given each child a 'home folder'. Please check it together daily. Please help your child learn to be responsible about packing their folder in their backpack each day. They will put any homework and communication from school into their home folder and they will be reminded each morning to check their folder for any homework or communication from home.
I'm excited to be beginning this year with your child. I look forward to a pleasant, productive and fun year. In a few days I will be sending home another letter to give you more information about our class.
Sincerely,
Cyrie Fagan Lange, M.Ed.
