School Board Minutes Tuesday February 12, 2008 Andy Boyce
convened the School Board meeting at 6:05PM in the Art Room. The following were present: Andy Boyce, Robin Brown, Karen
Kaliski, Jennifer Reining, Susan Weider, School Board; Alice Worth,
Principal; Wendy Baker, OESU Superintendent Executive Session:
MOTION:
(Boyce/Kaliski) moved/seconded to go into Executive Session at 6:06PM
to discuss the PrincipalŐs contract, the premature dissemination of which
would clearly place the Board at a disadvantage; unanimous. Out of Executive Session at
7:00PM. No action. Meeting moved to TES cafeteria and reconvened at 7:10PM. Orders – MOTION: (Brown/Weider) moved/seconded to
approve orders #13 and #14/07, January payroll deductions, and the February
15th payroll; unanimous. Presentation by Thetford Academy Board Capital
Project Update/Discussion – Tim Briglin, Chair of the TA Board of
Trustees, presented the TA Capital Project Update: Part 1 - last yearŐs construction plan, planning history,
and the funding plan for the project; Part 2 – what has changed in the
interim and why: the reluctance
of three banks to support a $10.6 million project has lead to a phased
project, with the initial phase projected to cost $8 million. TA has received the Town of ThetfordŐs
tax-exempt bonding authority for 2008 to lower the finance costs. Phase I - Beginning in the Spring of
2008 the Science building will undergo a complete renovation; a new gym will
be constructed; Anderson HallŐs basement will be renovated to allow for
cafeteria space and a black box theater; a new heating system will be
installed and the water and septic systems upgraded. Phase II will be undertaken when
financially feasible and include a new student union, new kitchen, and new
construction on the main floor of Anderson Hall for performing arts. Discussion – cost of the project and specific
contributions expected from the Town and the Academy including cost of debt
service; impact of enrollment on the bottom line; and comparison of tuition
rates of area high schools. TA
will provide additional information and cost figures for the School Board
