14 FROM THE PRINCIPALÕS DESK: There is a lot of excitement and anticipation as the last day of
school approaches. The sixth grade students are enjoying their last few days
at TES and trying their best to guess who is who on the baby picture board in
the lobby. IÕm having difficulty
with many faces, although some are a dead give away! The field trips to Boston were a
success by all accounts, and there are several trips in the works over the
next few days including the traditional Treasure Island excursions and first
grade trip to Groton State Park.
This has been a busy year for all of us, one marked by memorable
events and tremendous growth, both academically and socially for all children. Staff, students, parents and
community members have worked hard and I want to thank everyone for making
this school year a successful one. We couldnÕt do all the amazing things we
do at TES without the support of the community. Special thanks to the TES PTO, particularly the
officers who work so hard to support the school in so many ways. We all feel your support and
appreciation and look forward to the wonderful annual lunch that you so
generously provide for the staff as we close out another school year. I want to extend my appreciation to Jennifer Yocom for the
outstanding concert she conducted last night. The children did a beautiful job and it was great to see
such a packed house! I hope everyone has had a chance to see the amazing school gardens,
which the children have been planting. Thanks in advance to Phil OÕDonnell
for watering the garden this summer and the PTO for organizing garden
volunteers. If youÕd like to join the team please contact Stacey Glazer at
785-2415. The last day of school is Thursday June 14 with a 12:30
dismissal. At 10:00 we plan to have a closing assembly at which time we
will honor our departing staff. We wish the best of luck to Mary Corrigan,
Nancy Cressman, Lacey Smith, Diana Burke, Deb Bristol, Amanda Perron and Tom
Dunn as they embark on new adventures and thank them for their contributions
to Thetford. At 11:00 we will send our sixth graders across the bridge in a
graduation ceremony. 2007/08 class placement letters will be sent to families by the
end of the month. When we begin the next school year we will welcome the following
new teachers: Michelle Ricci: Guidance. Michelle will be moving to
Vermont from Juneau, Alaska, with her husband who will be a student at
Vermont Law School. She is a graduate of Western Washington University and
The University of Alaska. She has nine years of experience as an elementary
school counselor. Aimee Toth: Kindergarten. Aimee is moving with her
family to Thetford from Sophia, North Carolina. Children Will and Emma will be in kindergarten and second
grade respectively. She is a graduate of Taylor University with a
Kindergarten endorsement and has been a primary grade teacher for six years. Amy Dressler: Special Education: Amy has been a special educator at
the Pomfret School in Pomfret Vermont for two years. She is a graduate of Potsdam College
and has a Masters degree in Business Administration from Monmouth University
as well as a Masters in Education from Castleton State College. Georgia Buckner: French. Georgia is a resident of Norwich, Vermont and is a
graduate of Boston University with a BA in French Language and
Literature. She has also studied
at Institute for American Universities Aix-en-Provence, France and at the
Rassius Foundation. Although she will be beginning her second year of
teaching, Georgia brings an extensive background to this new position. She will be teaching 5 groups at TES
and 2 middle school classes at TA.
We are pleased to launch this new program under GeorgiaÕs leadership
and know that the partnership with TA will be rich and rewarding for the
Thetford children. I wish you all a very happy, safe and fun filled summer and
thank you all for giving us such wonderful children with whom to work
throughout the year. Regards, Help Needed!!!! We are looking for educationally sound
games and play things for the new kindergarten classroom. Things such as blocks, age
appropriate puzzles, building toys such as Duplos, trains, trucks, dolls etc.
in good clean condition would be greatly appreciated. Please drop them off at
the school when you can in the big box in the lobby. Thanks. P.S. Please check the lost and found
and stop by the health office to pick up any personal supplies left during
the school year. |
