From The PrincipalŐs Desk:

It was great to see so many parents at the Curriculum Night last week. Thanks for your continued support of the school, our work and your children.

Open House: Thursday evening October 11th 6:30-7:30 for all students in grades K-6 and their families. This is an opportunity for students to share their work and their classroom, with parents and others. We look forward to seeing you for this exciting TES annual event! On Monday October 15th at 3:15, TES staff will be viewing the movie Ruby Bridges in preparation for classroom viewings and discussion prior to Ms Bridges visit on November 6th.  Parents who are interested in seeing the movie with us are welcome to attend.

IŐd like to acknowledge the wonderful support that is given to TES by the local PTO. The first meeting was held on September 26th and there was great attendance and lots of discussion. The TES PTO organizes activities and fun events for the children including the annual Halloween party, which should be coming up at the end of the month. Volunteers are needed for this event and interested adults can make arrangements to join in the planning by contacting the room parents for your childŐs classroom. PTO ŇRoom ParentsÓ serve as a contact for the classroom teacher and help organize volunteers. Meetings of the PTO are held at TES on the last Wednesday of the month. ItŐs a great way to meet other parents and develop a connection to the school.

School Announcements:

Homework Club: The after school homework club will begin October 9th and run Tuesday and Thursday afternoons after school. This program is free and is open to all 4th-6thgrade students who would like help with homework and/or a quiet place to study and complete class-work.  Information and registration has been sent home but if you have questions you may call Sandy Dickson at school.

Our fourth annual Hike for Hunger raised $1147 in pledges for Vermont families in need of support and provided 8 boxes of food for the Thetford food-shelf. We also leaped into our Kids Connection program by hiking the Thetford Academy trails and the Mimi Trail. It was a beautiful afternoon and we all thank Michele Ricci, our new Guidance Counselor, for organizing this event as well as the many folks in the TES community for their donations.

EMERGENCY phone trees will be coming home with students in the next few days.  Please take a moment to check your number carefully.  The success of the tree, which is used primarily to notify families about unexpected school closings, depends on everyone's participation.  We start the tree as soon as the decision to cancel school is made; many families have children at TA, which starts an hour earlier than TES, or leave early for daycare.  Families with more than one student at TES are listed on only one phone tree.  Call Wendy Cole at 785-2698 with any questions or concerns.

October's PTO Coffee Hour will be this Friday, October 5th. ~Join us for a tasty treat and camaraderie between 7:45 and 8:45AM.  Hope to see you there!
