FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK:

Ms. Ruby Bridges comes to talk with TES students: In 1960, Ruby Bridges entered the William Frantz Public School in New Orleans as the first African American student to attend a formerly all-white public elementary school.  Accompanied by Federal Marshals, she was the first student to abide by the landmark decision that mandated the desegregation of public schools. Her attendance had a pivotal impact on the Civil Rights Movement. On November 7th Ms. Bridges will visit TES to share her historical involvement in the Civil Rights Movement with our children and to provide a model to students of the importance of standing up for oneÕs beliefs. We need to remind all TES families that this event, by contractual agreement with Ms Bridges, is only open to TES students and staff. Many activities are going on in the classes to prepare for this visit, and we hope the children will share their learning with you.

SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS:

VSO: On Tuesday October 30th at 10:45 am  TES will be visited by three brass players from the VSO (Vermont Symphony Orchestra) who will perform in an all-school assembly.

SALLY FOSTER: Sally Foster products will be arriving Friday the 26th and should be arriving home with the children. If your child has a large order and is not normally picked up at the end of the day, we will hold this until Monday so you can make arrangements.

The fund-raiser brought in $9,000. Many thanks to the students and teachers who participated, the parents who helped their children sell, the community members who purchased or donated and the room parents who helped tally and complete our sale.  An extra special thank you to Kendra Waterbury, who coordinated all activities associated with this event. We never could do this without her. Profits from the sale will be shared between all classrooms to fund field trips or classroom "extrasÓ. Thank you again for your support.

PICTURE RETAKES:  Wednesday, October 31.  If parents wish a new photo be taken, a form available in the school ofice must be completed, or the original package should be returned with the student.

UNICEF BOXES:  As Halloween is approaching, some children have been asking about UNICEF boxes.  We are sensitive to concerns about too much fundraising this fall and therefore will make boxes available through the Guidance Office for children who would like them rather than distribute them schoolwide.  Please have your child pick up a box from Michele Ricci if desired.
