11 FROM THE PRINCIPALÕS DESK: Parents of students in grades 3-6:
Student reports for the New England Common Assessment (NECAP) went home with
your child this week. If you did
not get your report, please let the classroom teacher know. On March 13th from 1:30-2:15 we will be
welcoming the TIGER staff to perform their show "A Bully Isn't Your
Friend...Yet!" Tiger stands
for Theater Integrating Guidance Education and Responsibility. This is a professional theatre
company designed to help schools and communities deal proactively with
difficult social issues. It is a
joint effort between the Integrated Arts and Counseling programs at Plymouth
State University. The group will
be traveling to Newbury and Oxbow schools earlier in the day before heading
to TES. Many thanks to the TES
and OESU Arts Teams for making this possible and to Michele Ricci for
organizing the event for TES. Joanna WaldmanÕs first grade class hosted
an art/poetry opening of their art and poetry exhibit on Wed. February 6thatLatham
Library. The exhibit is titled, "A Glimpse into our First-Grade Lives:
Internal and External Landscapes". Their work will be on display, on weekdays, through
the end of February, from 2:00-5:00 PM. The collages were inspired by the
books, Skin, Again, by Bell Hooks, and All the Places to Love,
by Patrician Maclachlan. This art exhibit includes collages and poems by each
student and a set of "I Am From" poems written in collaboration
with their Thetford Academy High School buddies, and teacher, Barb Sorenson
as part of "Primary PArtners", a service learning project with TA

February 18-23. Children Aged
8-11 years: come for one day or come for five. 9am to noon. The week focuses
on the Crafts of Africa. On Monday you will weave a small basket. Tuesday, use potatoes to create
patterns to decorate paper.
Wednesday you will paint based on African fabric designs. Thursday you
will make polymer clay beads and necklace. Friday make sun prints. Cost is
$150 for all five days, $125 for 4 days, $95 for 3 days, $60 for 2 days, $40
for one day. There is a $5/day materials fee. Children in grades 4-6 can attend a
five-day introduction to the metals studio. This class will focus on the safe
and fun use of the many tools in a metal studio, as well as to the intrinsic
properties of copper, brass and steel. You will make small sculptures and
jewelry. $150, plus $35 materials fee. Beginning the first week in March we have
pottery, mixed media and metal smithing after-school classes for all ages.
