From The PrincipalÕs Desk:

In keeping with our constant vigilance around student safety, IÕd like to remind parents at this time that staff supervision of children at TES ends at 3:15.  At that time, we expect that all children have left the school grounds either on the bus, with a parent, or with another designated adult when written consent has been received by the teacher (please refer to page 5 of the 2006/07School Handbook). We also release students to coaches when practice or play is beginning immediately after school.  We will not accept requests written or otherwise to permit children to remain on school grounds without parent supervision. Children should not be unsupervised between the end of the school day and the start of sports or other after school activities.

On Friday, Nov. 3 at 10:00 a.m., the Thetford Elementary School community will honor local veterans in an all-school assembly.  We invite parents and friends to join us as we sing songs, listen to readings, and pay tribute to the men and women of the armed services. It was important to us to hold this event on a Friday so that all Kindergarten students could participate.  However because of a previously scheduled OESU Administrators professional development session, I will not be in attendance to see and hear this wonderful tribute. Please be sure to invite a veteran, and call to let us know the person's name so that we can introduce our special guests to the children.

School Announcements:

TES PTO Book Fair: ItÕs time once again for the PTO Book Fair,  November 9- November 16 This year the book fair will take place in the TES Library. Simon Brooks will be telling stories from 5:15- 6pm at our Grand Opening, Thursday night Nov. 9th.

From the Health Office: Sleepy kids have trouble learning, according to recent studies AND common sense.  The myriad of approaching holidays serves to compound the issue of getting children to bed at an appropriate time.  How much sleep do kids need?  The American Medical Association recommends amounts ranging from 10-11 hours a night (!) for young elementary students to 8-9 for teens. Please give careful consideration to your students' bedtimes and sleeping habits; a good night's sleep gives children an extra advantage for having a great day.

From the Guidance Office: Once again, it is Halloween and an opportunity to involve the children in giving to others as they receive their treats. We are sending home Unicef trick or treat boxes for this purpose. TES children love to feel that they can make a difference for another child less fortunate. They should be able to explain to you how a little money goes a long way in third world countries.  100% of the trick or treat for Unicef money goes to programs for kids.  Please remind your child to take the Unicef box if he/she goes trick or treating.  Another idea is to ask your child if he or she would be willing to earn a little money for Unicef by doing some chores. Thank you, Mary Corrigan
