NOTES from and via Thetford Elementary School 11/15

 

THURSDAY & FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 16-17: SHAKESPEARE AT TES: This year's Shakespeare double feature "Empire Two" is Thursday, November 16th and Friday, November 17th at 7:00 in the Thetford Elementary School Gym/Theater.  As an Artist-in-Residence, David Kelman is directing shortened versions of two plays.  "The Conspiracy" is from Julius Caesar, and is a tragic tale of betrayal and death, followed by "The Twins", from The Comedy of Errors, a lively confusion of twins.  Come enjoy this outstanding performance and wonderful community event.

 

THURSDAY NOVEMBER 16th:  BOOK FAIR ENDS

 

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 17TH:  PICTURE RETAKES at Thetford Elementary School.  For picture retakes, you need to send into school with your child, the original packet of pictures OR fill out a new order.  Order blanks are available in the school office.

 

Basketball sign-up forms will be coming home with studentÕs grades 3-6 this week. There will be only two open gyms this year before practiceÕs start. The first open gym will be Monday November 20 at the following times 5th and 6th grade boys from 5:00-6:00, and 5th and 6th grade girls from 6:00-7:00. The second open gym will be Tuesday November 21 at the following times 3rd and 4th grade girls from 5:00-6:00, and 3rd and 4th grade boys from 6:00-7:00 or drop off the completed form with check payable to Thetford Youth Sports in the amount of $25.00 with Jinny in the office. SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 18th** Free Event  ** Dartmouth's World Music Percussion Ensemble tells--and drums--the fictitious story Jamari's Drum and other Talking Drum Rhymes. Delving into African storytelling and music for children, this interactive event includes drumming, singing, dancing and playing other melodic instruments.

            Start your Saturdays at the Hop! The HopStop Family Series-designed for young children in preschool through third grade-is an introduction to the world of performing arts. These hour-long presentations highlight music, theater and dance in ways that are interactive, engaging and exciting for children. At each HopStop you can chat with the performers, meet other Upper Valley families and enjoy a family-friendly show in a relaxing environment. HopStops are free and open to the public; no tickets or registration required. All HopStops are held in Alumni Hall, located on the second floor of the Hopkins Center (signs are posted). VESPERS CONCERT FRIDAY DECEMBER 1 and SUNDAY DECEMBER 3 (from Marion Cawley):  Thetford Chamber Singers Vespers Concert "PEACE, Prayers and Promises" performances:  7:30 pm, Friday, December 1 at the United Church of Strafford; 4:30 and 7:30 pm Sunday December 3, 2006, at First Congregational Church, Thetford Hill.  Admission $12 adults, $6 for ages 17 and under.  We will be performing works by Mendelssohn, Chilcott, Schutz, and others, interspersed with readings from Maya Angelou, and wrapped up with a beautiful candle lighting ceremony (many TA candle lighters). We're very pleased to have TA students Emma Cohen and (alumna) Alex Daum performing with the group. The emphasis is on peace and world community.
